Finnebrogue, the pioneering food company committed to producing healthier, cleaner-label products, is launching its revolutionary Naked ham in Dunnes Stores on 1st March 2025, this great-tasting ham, made without nitrites, provides Irish families with a healthier alternative to traditional processed meats.
The launch follows the huge success of Finnebrogue’s Naked bacon, which has been a firm favourite among Irish families for the past seven years. Now, Finnebrogue is responding to customer requests by bringing the same healthier, great-tasting ham to Irish homes.
Since launching in 2018, Finnebrogue’s Naked range has revolutionised processed meats by eliminating nitrites – a chemical preservative traditionally used in bacon and ham to make it pink in colour. However, nitrites have been linked to significant health risks.
In 2015, the World Health Organisation (WHO) classified processed meats and those containing nitrites as Group 1 carcinogens, meaning there is strong evidence that they increase the risk of cancer, in particular colorectal cancer. When consumed, nitrites can form carcinogenic nitrosamines in our digestive systems, which are harmful to human health.
Most processed meats contain either sodium or potassium nitrites but Naked bacon and ham is different—they contain absolutely no nitrites and are high in antioxidants.
Stephanie Byers, Finnebrogue Commercial Brand Manager, explains why it’s the right time to launch Naked ham in Ireland:
“Rather than delaying any further, we’ve responded to overwhelming demand from Irish consumers for a deli ham made without the nasties.
“For the last seven years, Irish consumers have embraced our Naked bacon, made without nitrites, and been asking for a healthier ham too. The demand has been undeniable, and we’re thrilled to deliver exactly what they want – ahead of schedule – and will transition the packaging to new Finnebrogue Naked branding later in 2025.
“Unlike most deli hams, Finnebrogue Naked ham contains absolutely no nitrites.
“With no artificial additives or nasty preservatives, no gluten, and a high-protein content, Finnebrogue Naked ham offers a healthier, meatier alternative to traditional deli hams. It’s perfect for lunchboxes, sandwiches, and everyday meals—without the worry of added nasties.”
