Finnebrogue enhances sustainability efforts with new electric forklifts

Finnebrogue has taken another significant step toward its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030 by replacing the diesel forklifts in its DBP site yard with state-of-the-art electric models from Jungheinrich. This change aligns with the company’s commitment to transition away from fossil fuel-powered equipment.

The two electric forklifts, leased on a five-year term, will deliver substantial environmental benefits, reducing operational emissions by 36 tonnes of CO2e annually – equivalent to the carbon absorption of 1,636 trees each year. Over the duration of the lease, these forklifts are projected to save 180 tonnes of CO2e.

In addition to their environmental advantages, the forklifts offer exceptional efficiency. A full charge takes just two hours, while a quick boost from 20% to 80% can be achieved in only 20 minutes. This rapid charging capability allows operators to recharge during breaks or shift transitions, ensuring seamless operations.

To support the electrification initiative, a new forklift shelter has been installed, providing a dedicated space for charging the vehicles and a covered area for operators to connect the forklifts safely and conveniently.

Commenting on the latest development, Paul Andrews, Head of Sustainability said: “The new forklifts represent a significant milestone in Finnebrogue’s efforts to minimise its environmental footprint, reinforcing its dedication to sustainable innovation.”
