Finnbrogue commits to WRAP Food Waste Reduction Roadmap

As part of its Bigger Picture programme to produce food that doesn’t cost the Earth, Finnebrogue has committed to support the delivery of the UK Food Waste Reduction (FWR) Roadmap, operated by Waste and Resource Action Programme (WRAP)

Renowned as one of the most forward-thinking food producers in the UK and Ireland, Finnebrogue has set an ambitious target to reduce food waste across its four sites in Downpatrick by 50%. In terms of edible surplus food, it has set a target of 100 per cent redistribution.

As Food Waste Action Week (18-22 March) unfolds, Finnebrogue colleagues are reminded of the profound impact their food habits can have.

As part of the UK Food Waste Reduction (FWR) Roadmap, the business is committed to improving procurement and supply chain management so that food losses are minimised during transportation, production and storage. The business will monitor data on food waste throughout the production process to identify areas for improvement and implement targeted interventions.

Further exemplifying its dedication to combating food waste, Finnebrogue proudly partners with Fareshare, by providing edible surplus products to its food banks, shelters, and various charitable organisations. Additionally, Finnebrogue actively supports Children in Northern Ireland, local schools and community groups by generously donating food or providing hampers to aid their fundraising efforts.

In a bold move to address the ongoing cost of living crisis, Finnebrogue introduced The Food Shack in 2021 – a compassionate initiative allowing colleagues to collect a weekly food bundle worth up to £25. These bundles include Finnebrogue products, further reinforcing the company’s commitment to fostering sustainable practices at every level of its operations

Target, Measure, Act
