Engaging with the next generation in our sustainability journey

At Finnebrogue, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We’re not only committed to reducing our environmental impact but also focused on fostering collaboration and inspiring the next generation of sustainability leaders.

One of the recent highlights of our sustainability efforts was a visit from students at CAFRE college to our plant-based site in Downpatrick. Paul and Sam from our sustainability team highlighted the crucial role sustainability plays in the food industry, as well as how Finnebrogue is tackling environmental and social challenges through its sustainability strategy.

The students learned about the environmental and social impacts of food production, with a special focus on how we’re working with suppliers and partners to reduce our footprint. We also shared an in-depth look at the sustainability initiatives that are being rolled out to meet our ambitious Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) targets.

But it’s not just about talking – it’s about action. And we were thrilled to share some of our recent wins with the students:

1. Carbon Footprint Reduction

We’ve successfully reduced our operational carbon emissions (scope 1 & 2) by 20.1% over the past year alone through energy-efficient practices and the installation of a solar PV array at our vegetarian site. This achievement is part of our long-term goal to become operationally carbon neutral across all manufacturing sites by 2030. Every step we take in the right direction helps us to create a cleaner, greener future for all.

2. Sustainable Sourcing

Finnebrogue are actively engaging with our ingredient suppliers to help us achieve an industry target of 100% deforestation-free supply chains by the end of 2025. Our approach focuses on working proactively with suppliers to ensure that all direct soya ingredients, and soya used as a livestock feed, is verified as deforestation-free.

3. Water Conservation Initiatives

With water scarcity becoming an increasing global challenge, Finnebrogue is pioneering water-saving measures across its production facilities. Recent upgrades to water-efficient system have included the installation of waterless urinals across all sites, saving six million litres of water annually.

These wins are just a part of our ongoing journey. We’re driven to continue working toward our sustainability goals while engaging with the wider community to share knowledge, inspire action, and create a sustainable legacy for future generations.
