Restoring Native Woodland at Finnebrogue

Lynn family on Finnebrogue Estate.

Exciting things are happening at Finnebrogue as we take steps to restore the beautiful native woodland on the Finnebrogue Estate.

As part of this project, we’re replanting 3,000 of Ireland’s most iconic indigenous trees, including oak, ash, hazel, silver birch, Scots pine, rowan, alder, wild cherry and crab apple.

To make space for these beautiful native trees to thrive, we’ll be removing non-native species like Norway Spruce, Sitka Spruce and Corsican Pine.

By restoring this native woodland along the banks of the River Quoile, we’re enhancing biodiversity and creating a vibrant corridor for wildlife to thrive. This effort is all about giving back to the land and creating a sustainable, thriving habitat for generations to come.

Here’s a little bit about some of the trees you’ll see:
🍃 Oak – Ireland’s national tree, symbolizing wisdom, courage, and truth. A cornerstone of Celtic heritage.
🍃 Hazel – Known as the Tree of Knowledge in Irish tradition, its nuts were said to grant wisdom.
🍃 Rowan – With its bright red berries, the rowan is a symbol of protection and courage in Celtic mythology.
🍃 Scots Pine – An ancient evergreen that can live for over 700 years, standing tall and proud in our landscape.

We’re so excited about this project and thank NMD Council, Forest service and NIEA for their support to help make this happen.

We can’t wait to see these native trees flourish.
